Glasgow's Second Class Citizens 1

Stefan Cross used Twitter to put a very good and reasonable point to the Leader of Glasgow Council, Susan Aitken, regarding Emergency Weather Payments and the Council's 'second class' treatment of Cordia workers.

Stefan Cross QC
So a Labour council set up a system where men were kept in house and got paid emergency weather payments but women were moved to an arms length organisation and were denied the payments.

The new SNP Administration has just endorsed that system. @SusaninLangside?

As Stefan says by keeping these pay arrangements in place the SNP administration is effectively endorsing the the Council's less favourable treatment of one section of the workforce.

And while I could understand the Council saying it cannot just snap its fingers and fix things overnight, the Council could cercainlyhave said:

"We agree in principle, we reject these discriminatory pay arrangements and we will compensate everyone who lost out during the Beast from the East weather emergency."

Now that would be a quite easy statement to make, if you ask, me and the Council could also have won some extra brownie points by selling off its new Roller to pay the backpay bill.

I have to say I don't know anyone who thinks that Glasgow's public image will be boosted by driving the Provost and guests around in a second hand Rolls Royce.

It Was Him - Boyd Tunnock (08/06/18)

Boyd Tunnock has been revealed as the mysterious, top-secret donor of a luxury Rolls Royce to Glasgow City Council.

The decision to accept the vehicle into the Council's fleet was taken personally by Glasgow's chief executive, Annemarie O'Donnell, and in recent days the gift has been welcomed by:
  • The City Council Leader, Cllr Susan Aitken
  • Glasgow's Lord Provost, Cllr Eva Bolander
  • Glasgow North West MP, Carol Monaghan
I say sell the Roller along with its personalised number plate and put the money aside to help the Council meet the costs of equal pay.

No, It Wasn't Him! (08/06/18)

No, it wasn't him - although by the looks of this photograph Wee Eck is a big fan of Tunnocks famous Teacakes!

Glasgow's Still Rolling Along! (08/06/18)

I'd be really 'T'd off' if I were Annemarie O'Donnell because the story about Glasgow City Council's new Rolls Royce keeps 'snowballing' and gathering steam.

Not only does the 'Roller' appear to have had an expensive new paint job, no one seems to know who paid for the vehicle's makeover from 'silver surfer' to ebony black.

To make matters worse, the Council's argument for keeping the name of the mysterious donor top-secret appears to be 'wafer thin' given the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 and the City Council's total commitment to openness and transparency in its decision-making processes.

The excitement is becoming too much to bear and wouldn't it just 'take the biscuit' if a senior council official had to resign over the cack-handed handling of the affair?
