Religion of Peace?

When Donald Trump called for Muslims to be banned from entering America recently there was, quite rightly, a huge international outcry about such a disproportionate and blanket response to the problem of Islamist terrorism.

Just the other day religious leaders in Iran re-issued the 'fatwa' calling for all good Muslims to murder the author Salman Rushdie for the 'crime' of writing a book called The Satanic Verses.

If I remember correctly, two translators of Salman Rushdie's book, have already been killed in cold blood by 'good Muslims' responding to this murderous call and are now, presumably, enjoying Paradise for carrying out their religious duty.

Now if this is the behaviour of a 'religion of peace', then I'm about to pop out and do a few choose around Glasgow on a winged horse, in the manner of the Prophet Mohammed.

So where is the international outcry in defence of Salman Rushdie, and where are Glenn Greenwald and Mehdi Hasan when you need them.

Here's an extract of a report from The Independent newspaper which you can read in full via this link:

Salman Rushdie: Iranian state media renew fatwa on Satanic Verses author with $600,000 bounty

Forty state-run Iranian media outlets have jointly offered a new $600,000 bounty for the death of British Indian author Salman Rushdie, according to the state-run Fars News Agency.

Fars News Agency, which is closely affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), was among the largest contributors, donating one billion Rials - nearly $30,000.

The announcement coincides with the anniversary of the fatwa issued the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic, the agency said. Ayatollah Khomeini, the First Supreme Leader of Iran, issued the fatwa against Rushdie on charges of blasphemy for his novel The Satanic Verses on 15 February, 1989.
