Dad's Army

Peter Brookes cartoon

The Times cartoonist Peter Brookes is on a bit of a roll with his recent depictions of Jeremy Corbyn and the current Labour Party leadership.

Using the release of the new 'Dad's Army' movie as his backdrop, Brookes invites readers to view the hapless Jeremy Corbyn as Captain Mainwaring, a bank manager who never saw combat in the First World War now in charge of a bumbling section of the Home Guard.

As they say, truth is often stranger than fiction.

Peter Brookes had a great cartoon in The Times the other day which depicted Jeremy Corby, John McDonnell and Ken Livingstone as three old lags celebrating their successful heist of the Labour Party in a London pub.

Readers with long memories will recall that John McDonnell was deputy leader to ken Livingstone in the good  old bad old days before the Greater London Council (GLC) was finally abolished in 1986.

At that time Jeremy Corbyn was very much the junior of his two colleagues being a lowly backbench MP at a time when the Conservatives enjoyed a big majority government under Margaret Thatcher.

Ken, John and Jeremy will be 75, 69 and 71 respectively around the time of the next UK general election in 2020.
