North Lanarkshire Update

The blog site has focused on the shameful treatment of GMB members by their own trade union in recent days, but there is another big issue at play that affects most of the former Manual Worker and APT&C workforce in North Lanarkshire - the need to re-evaluate various council jobs.

So here's a recent FoI request to North Lanarkshire Council which aims to establish the relative position of various jobs under the 2006/07 Job Evaluation Scheme (JES).

Because if you ask me, it is essential that NLC employees to understand how these jobs were assessed under the old and now discredited JE Scheme which was roundly criticised at the long-running Employment Tribunal involving North Lanarkshire Council.

Under the 2006/07 JE Scheme many of North Lanarkshire's female dominated jobs such as Home Carers, Classroom Assistants and Clerical Workers fared a great deal worse than unskilled male dominated jobs such as gardeners and refuse workers.

Who's to say the same thing won't happen again if the 2015 process is not conducted in an open and transparent manner, and that's what my latest FoI request to the Council is all about.
