Child Welfare

The news that two young children have become parents at the age of 12 and 13 has sparked the usual round of sensationalist discussion about underage sex.

But if you ask me, the real issue here is the welfare of the baby and two other children involved who, on the face of things, seem to be the victims of a terrible case of child neglect.

The mother appears to have conceived the child when she was aged 11, at primary school, and the circumstances involved raise a number of questions about how safe these children really are in the 'care' of their own families.

The father of the new mother apparently took to the radio the other day to announce how proud he was of his daughter and this immediate attraction to media publicity doesn't bode well for the future, I suspect.
