The latest edition of Private Eye contains a spoof of Russell Brand's recent venture into politics - or not as the case may be since the comedian's sage advice is that people should not even bother to vote at election time.

 Now that seems like a counsel of despair to me - even though many politicians and their parties often inspire widespread cynicism amongst the voting public - and with good reason as the MPs expenses scandal showed.

      Er... basically the time has come to break the traditional paradigm that is so-called democratic government by registering the people's total and absolute disillusionment with existing power structures and er... refusing to collude with the discredited fascist capitalist stays quo and er... instead adopting a radical liberal progressive revolutionary stance of doing nothing at all... er... thereby rendering the current hypocritical hegemonic hierarchy impotent in the face of a genuine transformative transcendental meditation-based agenda with a bit of taking drugs and shagging everything that moves thrown in... er... I mean it's really unfair the world... isn't it? 

     I'm thinking of doing politics at A-level.....

SNP - Conspiracy of Silence

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer. So here's a list of activities which will help shine a light on what has been going on because as Lord Nolan once said apropos driving up standards in public life - 'daylight is the best disinfectant'.
