What's It All About?
Surprisingly, real details as few and far between - maybe it's an 'ecumenical matter' as my old friend Father Ted might say - but here's an interesting extract from the BBC Scotland web site:
"The dispute centres on Mr Deans, who was involved in the row over the selection of a Labour candidate in Falkirk.
Mr Deans, who is chairman of both Labour's local constituency party and Unite in Scotland, was suspended by Ineos, then reinstated.
Ineos officials have said an investigation into the Unite union official was due to be completed by 25 October."
What I don't get is whether the strike is about the past treatment of Mr Deans - in being suspended and then reinstated - and if so, then what is a strike now likely to achieve?
On the other hand if Mr Deans is back at work and is being paid as normal - then is the strike about the investigation into his conduct - and if so, is the strike intended to force the company (Ineos) into dropping its investigation altogether?
In any event, you would think that the press and media would demand a better explanation of what's going on - from both Unite and Ineos - because as things stand the reason for the dispute is as clear as mud.
