Camera Doesn't Lie
The behaviour of the three police officers who 'beat up' Andrew Mitchell MP by lying about and misrepresenting what he had said to them in a meeting held in October 2012 - bears comparison with the Rodney King case in Los Angeles.
Because the police were only held to account by a recording of the incident which they were unaware of at the time - and which was used subsequently to expose their violent, bullying behaviour.
The same is true - without the physical violence - of Andrew Mitchell's 'mugging' at the hands of three serving police officers who were acting as representatives of the Police Federation, the police trade union.
The transcript of the meeting which was secretly recorded by Andrew Mitchell could not be clearer - and, according to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) a proper assessment of the evidence leads to the conclusion that the police lied about what was said during their meeting and set out deliberately to damage and misrepresent a member of the public - in this case a Member of Parliament.
And for that they should surely be held to account.
