Red Letter Days


Here is the list of dates when the Union Jack will apparently be flying over Beflast City Hall.

Now I don't even know who some of these people are - The Countess of Wessex of the Duchess of Cornwall, for example - far less get myself worked up about whether the Union Jack flies on thse days - or not as the case may be.

One thing I do find odd however is the fact that the Union Jack is to fly on St Patrick's Day (17 March) - but not on St Andrew's Day St George's Day, for example.

Now is this because the flag flying enthusiasts in the North of Ireland want to show solidarity with the rest of the island of Ireland - on their national saint's day?

I suspect not because of that were true - presumably the same gesture would be made towards Scotland, England and Wales.

Funny the things some folk get obsessed about - don't you think?
