Glasgow's Golden Goodbye Scandal
The scandal of the £1 million+ 'golden goodbye' payments at SNP-led Glasgow City Council (GCC) refuses to go away.
The Accounts Commission (which is overseen by Audit Scotland) has now written to all Scottish councils urging them to ensure good governance, value for money and transparency when making decisions about exit packages.
But I raised this very issue back in 2018 when I wrote to Audit Scotland (Scotland's public spending watchdog) about GCC paying a golden goodbye of around £130,000 to its departing director of finance so she could access her pension early - without bearing a financial penalty.
In 2018 Audit Scotland told me they had no concerns about GCC's governance arrangements yet now they are telling a different story which smacks of closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.
So I think I'll dig out those letters and share them on the blog because Glasgow spending over £1 million on these hugely generous exit packages is a terrible abuse of public money.
