Trade unions claim to be member-led, but when it comes to women's rights they are dancing to the tune of largely male trans activists instead of standing up for women members. Up till now the unions have supported self-ID - a nonsense policy which, if passed into law, would have allowed men to declare they have magically 'become women' entitling these men to invade women's single sex spaces. The Scottish Government tried to do just that of course, but they were stopped in their tracks by UK ministers and a resounding judgment from the UK Supreme Court which affirmed biological sex as the foundation stone of equality law. Trade unions gather in Brighton at the weekend for the 157th annual congress of the TUC which I last attended in 1983 to collect the TUC Youth Award - a time when no one had heard of queer theory, children being born in the wrong body, self-ID and men claiming they are women.
