Christmas Election

So it looks as though we will have have a snap general election in the run-up to Christmas after all even though the likely outcome is the return of a Conservative Government with Boris Johnson as Prime Minister.

Quite why the opposition parties are going down this road without seeking a confirmatory vote on Brexit is beyond me and if things go badly, they will all have given Boris Johnson an early Christmas present.

Not only that, of course, because if Johnson's Brexit Deal goes through the country faces years of upheaval and disruption, as our trading and other important links with the European Union are painstakingly renegotiated and replaced.

Or, worse still, an emboldened Boris Johnson and his chums use the opportunity to deliver a much harder version of his Brexit Deal once the initial 12 month 'transition period' is over at the end of 2020.

Put It To The People! (22/10/19)

Boris Johnson demanded a 'second vote' on his Brexit Bill within 48 hours of its defeat in the House of Commons.

Yet he opposes a democratic People's Vote on Brexit even though the Government's proposals are so very different to what was promised in the 2016 referendum.

Put It To The People (21/10/19)

Boris Johnson mounted a political 'coup' earlier this year against his own party leader and Prime Minister when he led a coalition of MPs in rejecting Theresa May's Brexit deal which had been negotiated in good faith with the European Union.

At the time Brexiteers said this was about taking back control and that Parliament was sovereign, but now that the boot is on the other foot, with MPs' voting down a second (arguably worse) Brexit deal, Johnson and his supporters are crying foul.

The will of the people is being denied claims Johnson, yet the reality is that the 2016 referendum never voted in favour of any particular kind of Brexit including a No Deal Brexit.

So three and a half years later and now that we have a clear idea of what Brexit means (Theresa May's deal, Boris Johnson's deal or No Deal) the time has surely come for the people - not the politicians - to have the final say.

Bollix to Brexit! (19/10/19)

Tony Blair: This deal doesn’t end the Brexit saga, which will define our country for generations. You don’t take a decision of destiny through a spasm of impatience. Parliament should vote this deal down, get an extension & then the British people should take the final decision.

I can't believe there are any Labour MPs who are short-sighted enough to vote for Brexit because, as Tony Blair explains, the final decision should be left to the voters to choose between Remain and Boris Johnson's half-arsed deal.

Brexit - Lies, Lies....and More Lies (02/10/19)

Boris Johnson speaking before the referendum: “I would vote to stay in the single market. I’m in favour of the single market.”

Boris Johnson proclaimed the importance of staying in the EU Single Market before the referendum in 2016.

Boris Johnson initially welcomed Theresa May's deal and congratulated the Prime Minister on her Withdrawal Agreement before subsequently resigning from the Cabinet.

Boris Johnson is an habitual liar and cannot be trusted.

Lies, Lies....and More Lies (19/07/19)

The case for Brexit was built on a whole series of lies - lies about an extra £350 million a week for the NHS, lies about the withdrawal negotiations being the easiest thing since sliced bread and lies about UK businesses being strangled by European 'red tape'.

And here's Boris Johnson demonstrating that more than three years after the EU referendum - absolutely nothing has changed.

Which is why we should say - Bollocks to Brexit and demand a People's Vote.

"I want you to consider this kipper..."@BorisJohnson held a smoked kipper above his head claiming regulations imposed by 'Brussels bureaucrats' were damaging the trade.

But the European Commission has debunked this claim - latest politics: https://news.sky.com/politics
