Spooky Or What?

The sun shone on Celtic Park on Saturday during a really memorable tribute to the club captain Billy McNeill, a true 'sportsman' who was widely admired for the way he handled himself both on and off the field of play.

The match against Kilmarnock was dour, dire even, for much of the time, but the deadlock was finally broken when Celtic's Simunovic (wearing the Number 5 shirt as the club'ss fallen captain) scored with the same kind of header that McNeill would have been proud of himself - and after 67 minutes, no less.

Spooky or what?

To their credit the Kilmarnock fans (pictured in the centre of the photo below) were on their best behaviour and joined in the 67 seconds of applause for Billy McNeill before the game got underway.

Such a shame then that the knuckle-dragging element of Celtic's support showed themselves up recently with their ugly abuse and sectarian behaviour towards the Kilmarnock club captain, Kris Boyd.

Billy McNeill, RIP (23/04/19)

I was in Lisbon last year and, like many Celtic fans, made the journey out to Estádio Nacional, the scene of the club's greatest triumph where Billy McNeill raised the European Cup after an thrilling and well-deserved 2-1 win over the champions of Italy, Inter Milan.

I still remember the enormous excitement of that day and the game itself which I watched on a small black and white TV back in Glasgow.

RIP, Billy McNeill an inspiring leader on and off the field of play - and a wonderful ambassador for his club.
