Glasgow, Equal Pay, Rabbits and Hats

Here's an arresting image which I think is a fair way of explaining Glasgow City Council's 'plan' for producing an equal pay settlement offer in December 2018.

In effect, senior council officials are claiming that in the run up to Christmas, in the absence of detailed negotiations with the Claimants Side, they will manage pull a rabbit out of a hat  - and presumably at that point everyone is expected to stand back, cheer and clap in amazement.

Now this is not how 'serious negotiations' work and the Council knows this full well, of course.

Negotiations are hard, painstaking work in which two or more parties give themselves the task of finding common ground and whittling away their differences, before bringing forward proposals that both sides can sign up to as part of a legally binding, contractual agreement.

Negotiations are not about one side going off on its own, working up its own proposals behind closed doors before pulling a rabbit out of hat at some future date.

I think the Council may now having second thoughts about this cockamamy plan which is good because it's completely MAD, if you ask me!
