Glasgow Unison Branch

Here's an update from the Glasgow Unison branch which includes a timely reminder that further industrial action over equal pay is not ruled out.

Let's hope the Council is listening and that negotiations with the Claimants' representatives continue to make progress.

Equal Pay - Past Compensation Update

UNISON members took strike action in response to a repeated failure to make progress in negotiations, the removal of the agreed timetable and work plan, the council's retreat into unilateral action, and the repeated failure to disclose key negotiating documents.

UNISON members should know that our legal negotiators have been in intense, meaningful and productive negotiations for two weeks.

Our demands for a timetable and work plan have been met and the talks are on schedule. However, the absence of meaningful talks for ten months has compressed the time available to conclude agreement this year, so the engagement and officer commitment of the last two weeks must be sustained consistently for the remainder of the year. A considerable volume of complex work remains to be done.

UNISON’s efforts at this point are focussed on the current negotiations that resumed after the strike in late October. However further action is not ruled out in the coming period if required.

Remember that equal pay claims are individual. That is the law. You will not get a pay out just because your colleague does. If you have not lodged an equal pay claim for past pay discrimination and wish to do so please call 0141 342 2832. For those of you who have a claim in, please ask others whether they have one in too. Help your friends and colleagues get pay equality.
