Reckless Move
The latest Tory MP to defect to UKIP, Mark Reckless, seems to have got right up the noses of his old chums in the Conservative Party.
Which I can well understand since the 'honourable' member for Rochester and Strood consistently denied rumours that he was about to jump ship, only to do so on the eve of the party conference in Birmingham, presumably so that he could cause maximum damage to his old chums.
Now I don't have any time for UKIP, but you would think that if there are any more of these disgruntled MPs in Conservative ranks, that they would stand up and be counted instead of this rather tawdry 'dance of the seven veils' routine.
After all the general election is only 8 months away and the voters deserve better than this ridiculous pantomime.
Apart from his obsessive opposition to the UK's membership of the European Union, Reckless also voted against his own Government's proposals to withdraw child benefit from people earning over £50,000 a year.
So UKIP seems like the right place for Mr Reckless since 'Ukippers' believe that it's possible to have both tax cuts and generous welfare benefits for the middle classes at one and the same time - which is the political equivalent of making an omelette without breaking any eggs.
