Humza's Hate Crime Law - Where's The Beef?


Janice Turner exposes the myth about a rising epidemic of hate as justification for Humza's new hate crime law:

"Yet is Scotland really such a hateful place? For three years its government’s “Hate Crime Strategic Partnership Group” has convened meetings, organised hate awareness conferences and slide presentations, produced a “draft facilitation pack” and a “hate hurts” ad campaign. So much busy, costly work to drive the terrible crime of “stirring up hatred” from the land.

"So where are what Hale calls the “frightful proofs”? The Scottish government’s own figures show crimes aggravated by hate fell by 2 per cent last year. Race crime, the most reported hate crime, was down 31 per cent since 2011-12 and down 2 per cent since 2021-22.

"Sexuality and disability have gradually risen as aggravating factors, which may show greater confidence in reporting by victims. But those related to transgender identity fell from 86 cases in 2021-22 to 55. Each is an appalling incident, yet where is Yousaf’s “rising tide”?"

SNP - Conspiracy of Silence

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer.
