Hapless Humza has doubled down on the chaos of 2023 and the SNP's nightmare has only just begun argues Iain Macwhirter in his hard-hitting opinion piece for the Times.
The latest opinion poll from Redfield and Wilton suggests the SNP are on course to return only 19 of their 43 MPs in a 2024 general election while Labour would be back with 27.
Iain argues that Nicola Sturgeon's abrupt resignation left the SNP in poor shape, but that Humza Yousaf has also proved to be adept at shooting himself in the foot over:
- Self-ID, the gender reform bill and the SNP getting far too cosy with the Greens
- Operation Branchform and the ongoing Police Scotland investigation into SNP finances
- More 'trans legislation' on gender conversion therapy
- The SNP farce over banning XL Bully dogs
- The SNP's 'pay more, get less' ScotGov budget
- Baloney claims about Scots being £10,000 a year better off under Indy
- Confusing, contradictory messages on Labour and the Conservatives
The moral of the story is that the outgoing SNP leadership made a big mistake by installing Humza Yousaf as its new party leader and First Minister.
