Mitt Romney - Country Before Party

Mitt Romney was the only Republican Senator to put his country before party by voting to convict Donald Trump on the charge of abusing his power as President.

For voting with his conscience, for putting right before wrong as he saw things, Romney was then subject to a vicious,  personal attack by Trump which speaks volumes about the character of the man.

Risible Republicans (06/02/20)

In 1998 Republican politicians in America impeached Bill Clinton over his inappropriate sexual affair with a young White House intern, Monica Lewinsky.

Twenty-two years later Republican politicians reject far more serious allegations against Donald Trump without hearing from key witnesses, including senior White House officials, who say Trump tried to strong-arm the Ukranian government into digging up dirt on a domestic political rival, Joe Biden.

The situation would be comical, if it were not so serious for America and the rest of the world.

Nancy Tears Trump A New One (05/02/20)

Donald Trump is well-known for his boorish, ignorant behaviour and before this State of the Union address to America's Congress got underway yesterday the 45th president declined to shake hands with Nancy Pelosi, the House Speaker.

In response, Nancy Pelosi disdainfully tore up her copy of Trump's speech later explaining that she could not find "one page with truth on it".

Good for her, I say.

Trump's Ugly Boast (03/02/20)

Donald Trump's defence against impeachment essentially amounts to saying that an American President is above the law which chimes with Trump's ugly boast that:

"I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn't lose voters."

In this YouTube video the team from Saturday Night Live have some fun with Trump and his 'defenders' such as Alan Dershowitz whose previous clients included Jeffrey Epstein and OJ Simpson.

Eating Your Own Words (23/01/20)

One of Donald Trump's legal team, Alan Dershowitz, eats his own words from 1998 when he argued passionately that impeachable conduct did not need to involve a 'technical crime' or a breach of the criminal law.

Dershowitz, by the way, was also a member of OJ Simpson's legal team in the infamous trial involving the murder of Simpson's former wife, Nicole Brown.
