The Fight for Equal Pay in Glasgow

Here's a briefing from the GMB union on the ongoing fight for equal pay in Glasgow City Council.

Susan Aitken: Let's Be Clear

This morning Council Leader Susan Aitken went on Good Morning Scotland to say that the Council is in meaningful negotiations and that the Unions are threatening to strike 'unless she pays out right now'. GMB have been clear that our demands are a fair and full, negotiated settlement in a REASONABLE timescale. Once again we're disappointed that Aitken is defending the process and the officials, which is now indefensible.

Further more, questions are being raised about the consequences of the settlement on future budgets. GMB members should be clear that the priority is the settlement of equal pay claims to compensate for money stolen from members and any cuts to services would be because of a mismanagement of the process. There are many funding options for settlement and cuts are not inevitable. We won't allow anyone to use Equal Pay as an excuse for cuts.

GMB strike ballots will start arriving next Thursday (30th). Vote YES!

GMB Glasgow

Strike ballot: What you need to know

Why are we balloting?
We will be balloting for strike action. The reason for this ballot is the Council dragging their feet on equal pay payments, the lack of progress on the new job evaluation scheme (WPBR) and to ensure parity for all claimants.
What do we want?
We want the Council to replace their negotiating team who have driven this process into the ground and we want a fair, full and negotiated settlement within a reasonable timetable. We are calling for urgent political intervention to get the negotiations moving.

Fighting Fund

For members worried about losing pay, GMB Scotland has a hardship fund that, should we come to strike action, members will be able to apply for.
