So Long, Old Timer

My good friend George Cunningham passed away this year, just a few weeks before Christmas, after a lengthy period of ill-health in which he suffered from a terrible condition known as Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).

George was a big fan of Led Zeppelin and, for reasons I never quite understood, George always welcomed and bade farewell to his comrades with the salutation 'Old Timer', from the very first day we met over 40 years ago.

Our mutual friend Danie who grew up with George in Girvan, from a very young age,  delivered a hugely affectionate, funny and fitting tribute to his 'big pal' at George's funeral service at Warriston Crematorium in Edinburgh recently.

A sad day, to be sure, but one lit up by the fond memories of George's family and his many friends who were there to say their farewells and celebrate the many accomplishments of George's life and times.

So, so long, Old Timer - you were great company over the years and it was a real pleasure to count you as a friend.
