Corbyn Conspiracy

The campaign to 'Save Jeremy Corbyn' has broken new ground with the claim that the hapless Labour leader is the victim of a conspiracy to stop him speaking out over the Chilcot Inquiry.

Now as conspiracies go that's up there with Tommy Sheridan's bizarre claim that he was 'fitted up' over events surrounding his famous perjury trial, by fellow members of the Scottish Socialist Party who were in league, allegedly, with the Lothian Police Force and publishers of News of the World newspaper.

But why let the facts get in the way of a good story, as they say, which also seems to be the logic behind Alex Salmond's Corbyn conspiracy claim.

Labour MPs from all wings of the party realise that Corbyn is a 'dud' who cannot connect with the wider public including figures like Tom Watson and Michael Dugher who played crucial roles in 'persuading' Tony Blair to stand down as Labour leader when his position became untenable.

In other words Watson and Dugher are not Blair supporters and the suggestion that they are part of an organised conspiracy is just complete tosh.

The coup against Corbyn was planned to stop him calling for Blair’s head after Chilcot

ELLON, SCOTLAND - MARCH 30: Alex Salmond, the SNP candidate for the Gordon constituency attends a hustings event on the first day of the British General Election campaign on March 30, 2015 in Ellon, Scotland. Campaigning in what is predicted to be Britai -
By Alex Salmond - The Sunday Herald

In normal political times Wednesday would see the most dramatic event of the year.

Thirteen years after the Iraq war and seven years after the start of his Inquiry, Sir John Chilcot will deliver his findings. In particular for the relatives of the 179 service personnel who died, but also for everyone living with the consequences of this conflict, it has been a long time coming.

However, such has been the all enveloping chaos in Westminster too little attention has been paid to the coming Chilcot report. When the European roof is falling in on one Prime Minister it is difficult to concentrate on just how a previous one destabilised the planet.

History Repeating Itself

The real problem facing Jeremy Corbyn is that the people resigning from his front bench team are all elected politicians in their own right as well, elected by Labour voters and not just party activists.

Just a few short months ago Jeremy was proclaiming these same people as his A-Team, a potential government in waiting, yet now they are walking out the door in droves after coming to the conclusion that their leader cannot win a general election - that he cannot connect with the wider public.

Labour's deputy leader, Tom Watson, organised a similar political 'coup' against Tony Blair which ushered in Gordon Brown and I'd bet my house that Jeremy Corbyn was one of those who supported the Blair rebellion at the time.

So he's really just getting a taste of his own medicine even though the underlying issue is that Jeremy is not up to the job, as his key lieutenants have shown by voting with their feet.

Tony Blair also had a mandate from his third general election victory in 2005, not just as Labour leader, but that as people will recall counted for nought in the end.

Respect (26/06/16)

I remember watching an episode of South Park in which Cartman's appointment as a school 'hall monitor' goes to his head, so much so that he dresses up as a cop and demands that the other kids 'Respect ma authoritah'.

Now that made me laugh, but not as much as serial rebel Jeremy Corbyn demanding that Labour MPs respect his 'mandate' party leader after spending the past 30 years defying a succession of Labour leaders including Neil Kinnock, John Smith, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown and Ed Miliband.

If my memory serves me correctly, Jezza has actually defied the Labour whip more than 500 times during his long  parliamentary career.

So I suspect his demand for 'respect' will fall on deaf ears, as it's a blatant case 'Do as I say, not as I do'.
