What Does The 'Exodus' Of SNP MSPs Mean?

Professor James Mitchell, chair of public policy at Edinburgh University, has some interesting thoughts on what the departure of MSPs like Kate Forbes means for the SNP and the Scottish Parliament.

“But the SNP leadership has been going through the motions over the last decade, marching its troops to the top of the hill only to march them down again time after time.

"If there was a real prospect of independence in the next few years we would expect at least some, probably most, of those who have decided to stand down, to stay on in parliament.

“None is likely to admit this publicly, but all the signs, including the internal divisions on strategy, are that many in the SNP know that the movement has stalled, its leadership is bereft of ideas and it has a poor record in government.”

"He added that Holyrood’s 'progressive and family friendly' credentials were being undermined by the slew of women leaving politics."
