Alex Massie is spot on with his piece about the SNP which has introduced a policy of self-ID by stealth in the Scottish Prisons Service (SPS) in recent years by pandering to male trans criminals without consulting women prisoners or the wider public.
Now the numbers involved are small, but self-ID is the thin end of a very big wedge and the policy affects more than half the population - women - whose single sex spaces (in sport, rape crisis centres, changing areas, toilets etc) have been routinely invaded by men.
"Similar arguments are sometimes trotted out about male participation in women’s sport. Not many men are invading women’s spaces like this so where, really, is the harm?"Yet women, who make up half the population, are not a small number of people and it is remarkable that they are routinely expected to give way, or sacrifice their entitlements, to the demands of, yes, a small number of men."
Self-ID treats the views and feelings of men (and male criminals) as more important than women.
