Bonkers or What?

Like most sensible people - I believe the UK has a duty to uphold human rights legislation.

But the following report from The Times leaves me thinking - that some judges have taken leave of their senses.

'Human rights court blocks deportation'

"Immigrants considered 'undesirable' or 'dangerous' cannot be deported if they face possible ill-treatment at home, however bad their crimes in Britain, human rights judges have ruled.

In a test case the Strasbourg judges said the UK's duty to protect people against torture or inhumane treatment was 'absolute'. The case involved two Somalis facing enforced return to Mogadishu after convictions for serious crminal offences. More that 200 similar actions are pending against Britain."

Now I've no idea what crimes these two convicted criminals carried out - but it seems to me that a 'serious offence' must be code language - for a crime of violence.

In which case what about the human rights of the victims - particularly if the men involve pose a significant risk of re-offending.

Because that can only add to the suffering they've already caused.
