Labour and 21st Century Glasgow

Jeremy Corbyn tweeted yesterday that a future Labour government will pardon  suffragettes who were punished and victimised for demanding the right for women to vote which is all very well, I have to say, but this fight took place a long time ago.

And as I pointed out in my reply, there are some much more practical things the party Leader  could do to show his support for women's equality such as having a word with the Labour Group on Glasgow City Council - and encouraging Labour councillors to support the city's low paid women workers in their fight for equal pay.

Labour were in power in Glasgow when the City Council introduced its 'unfit for purpose' WPBR pay scheme and for the past 10 years the Labour leadership fought tooth and nail to defend the WPBR.

So, maybe Jezza would like to do something more useful on the equalities front in Glasgow  instead of just virtue signalling and playing to the gallery.

Labour in government will both pardon the suffragettes and give an official apology for the miscarriages of justice and wider persecution they suffered.

Jeremy Corbyn Says Labour Would Pardon And Apologise To Suffragettes

Tuesday marks the centenary of some women over 30 achieving the right to vote.

Instead of this pointless political grandstanding why don't you tell the Glasgow City Council Labour Group to gets its finger out and support Glasgow's low paid women workers in their fight for equal pay?
