Falkirk Council Update
Here's an email I've received from a reader in Falkirk which seems to confirm that there's little to be gained in complaining directly to trade unions, if they remain both 'judge and jury' in relation to concerns being raised by members.
I've heard from thousands of union members over the years, many of whom complained that their trade union failed to advice them properly in relation to equal pay and, in some cases, actively discouraged members from pursuing claims against their council employer.
As regular readers know, trade unions don't behave this way when it comes to strike ballots or Political Fund Ballots which require that every single union member is directly mailed and invited individually to join in.
Whereas on equal pay the unions, in many areas, appear to have adopted a DIY approach to equal pay and put the onus on ordinary members to understand the details of what's going on.
Which is why it would be only fair and reasonable for an independent 'referee' to adjudicate in cases where individual union members are unhappy about the level of service or representation provided by their trade unions.

YOU DID POST ONE OF MY E-MAILS REGARDING THE EQUAL PAY CLAIMS AGAINST FALKIRK COUNCIL A LONG TIME AGO.
I TOOK OUT A GRIEVANCE AGAINST THE FALKIRK BRANCH OF UNISON BUT IT WENT TO THE THIRD STAGE AND WAS BASICALLY THROWN OUT.
I HAVE ALL THE PAPERWORK FROM THEN..... MY CLAIM WENT IN MAY 2010. WAS TOLD I HAD MISSED OUT ON THE FIRST CLAIM BECAUSE I HAD NOT PUT IN A FORM. I HAVE TO SAY THAT NO DETAILS WERE GIVEN TO MEMBERS.
I WORKED IN A LOCAL SCHOOL FOR 28 YEARS AND RETIRED IN SEPTEMBER.
I NOW KNOW THAT GMB MEMBERS HAVE BEEN PASSED ON TO THOMPSONS SOLICITORS IN THE PAST THREE WEEKS. SICK OF HEARING ABOUT TRIBUNALS ETC ETC. NUMEROUS MEETINGS WITH FALKIRK COUNCILLORS, UNISON PEOPLE. AGAIN NO USE TO MAN NOR BEAST.......
LOW PAID FALKIRK COUNCIL WOMAN WORKERS HAVE TRULY BEEN LET DOWN BY THEIR UNION AND NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE.
