Tony Blair wrote an interesting piece for The Guardian the other day in which he urged Labour members not to vote for Jeremy Corbyn as leader, if they really wanted Labour to remain as a party of government.

Now you can say what you like about Tony Blair, but at least he is fighting his corner and you can read what he had to say for yourself by following this link to The Guardian.

Needless to say the 'Blair haters' were out in force on the readers comments section of the Guardian web site soon after publication with their usual invective, completely ignoring the fact that MPs had a free vote in the House of Commons over the war in Iraq.

Some now say that was a mistake, but there's no getting away from the fact that they made a conscious, informed decision at the time even if they'd rather make out that 'a big boy did it and ran away' which strikes me as the position of Lord John Prescott, for example, who was Labour's deputy leader at the time.

Nor does it get away from he fact that if Labour does elect Jeremy Corbyn as its next leader, the party will inevitably descend into civil war with one Labour MP, Simon Danczuk, saying:

“I would never consider leaving the Labour party but I would do all I could to ensure there was a change of leader. I think he’d struggle to last 12 months.”

“Am I going to traipse through the lobby for some crazy left-wing policies for Corbyn when he has had no discipline? Why should I toe the line? I think that will be rife within the Parliamentary Labour Party.”

Now Simon Danzcuk has a very good point it has to be said because Jeremy Corbyn has been a serial rebel under every Labour leader since 1983: Neil Kinnock, John Smith, Tony Blair, Gordon and Ed Miliband.

I read somewhere that JC has voted against the party 'whip' no less than 500 times during his parliamentary career which begs the question:

"Why should he expect loyalty and discipline from anyone else?"

The bottom line is that Jeremy is a bog-standard former trade union official who has failed to make any real impact on the Labour party in opposition or in government for the past 32 years.

So while electing him as leader would be democratic it would also, in my view, be stark raving mad.
