Happy New Year!



A very Happy New Year to all readers - I hope that all of your dreams and ambitions come true in 2013.

2013 is the Year of the Snake under the Chinese calendar - would you believe - and the snake is regarded as a great sign - a positive, high energy one apparently. 

Now I'm not a great believer in astrology - Chinese or any other variety - but I do think that 2013 will be a momentous year in terms of equal pay.

Several big issues are likely to be in the spotlight in the months ahead including;

1 The long-running South Lanarkshire Council case

2 The challenge to Glasgow City Council's 'in-house' job evaluation scheme (JES)

3 The consideration of thousands of 'second wave' equal pay claims - which are still outstanding because of the partial settlements agreed with most council employers in Scotland - following local implementation of JES.

SNP - Conspiracy of Silence

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer.
