Sneaky and Underhand

Here's another little gem from the 'secret' North Lanarkshire Council report on equal pay:

"Para 1.8

The closure of accounts at 31 March 2011 included a provision for both RAE and EV claimants and non-claimants based on the best assessment  of exposure at that time."

What this means - in plain lanaguage - is that North Lanarkshire Council has already budgeted for and set aside - the costs required to settle these outstanding claims.

In which case why in the world is North Lanarkshire Council continuing to drag its feet?

And why is the Labour leadership of NLC trying to screw even more money out of its workers - by saying it will make poorer offers of settlement with trade union support?

RAE stands for Rated as Equivalent, by the way, and the term is used in relation relates to claims from former Manual Workers.

While EV stands for Equal Value and relates to former APT&C workers - of whom there are many hundreds - including lots of people who have still to register an equal pay claim.

But the key point is that North Lanarkshire is behaving very badly and sneakily - so if you don't want the council to get away with 'murder' - then raise a real rumpus with your local councillor, MP and MSP.

Remember the local council elections are only weeks away.

If you know someone who has not yet registered an equal pay claim - male or female, former Manual Worker of former APT&C - makes no difference.
