K is for Klutz

Ken Livingstone - Labour candidate for London Mayor - has put his foot in it again by claiming that the Conservative party is "riddled" with homosexuals.

Well what if it is - what business is that of Ken's?

Apparently Ken said that some Tory MPs denounce homosexuality while secretly "indulging" - but he conspicuously failed to name any names.

When asked why he had singled out Conservative MPs - Ken explained that the Labour ones have all 'come out'.

But that's not my information - I have to say - though it's not people's sexuality that gets them in bother these days - so much as their behaviour.

London elects a new mayor in May if I remember correctly.

Ken has stood three times before of course and in my view he's well past his sell-by date - which is what I said back in October 2011.

For someone who says he's a great supporter of diversity - of better representation for women and people from minority ethnic groups.

Yet if Ken gets his way he will have been the face of Labour politics in London - for a period of twenty years - which is a crazy state of affairs.

K is for Klutz (October 7th 2011)

If P is for Putin - then K is for Klutz.

Klutz in the sense of Ken Livingstone - who is attempting to become Mayor of London for the third time.

Now I find this all a bit strange- because Ken has already been Mayor for two four year terms - before he was soundly beaten by Boris Johnson in 2008.

But instead of the Labour party finding a new candidate - a woman or someone from an ethnic minority background - all Labour has done is to come up with yet another 50-something or even 60-something white male.

Which is hard to believe in a party that keeps on banging on about the need for greater diversity - and fairness in public life.

So if Ken gets elected - presumably he will be following the same crazy shift pattern as Vladimir Putin - eight years on, then four years off - followed by another eight years at the helm again.

The answer is of course that politicians - all politicians are power mad - they'll do anything (just about) to get elected and anything to stay in office.

Instead of doing the decent thing - and making way for the next generation.

I find it hard to believe that out of all the Labour party members in London - there is not another candidate who can challenge the present incumbent - Boris Johnson.

I find it even harder to believe that someone from Ken Livingstone's political background - can justify this attempt to try and monopolise Labour's political ambitions in London - for more than twenty years.

To my mind it's more about vanity than politics - which is why K stands for for Klutz - when it comes to Labour, London - and the next London Mayor.
