Good news for readers in Edinburgh - and in other parts of Scotland as well - hopefully.
Because Edinburgh City Council has decided to withdraw its appeal to the UK Supreme Court - in respect of equal pay claims from former APT&C workers - which have become known as the Wilkinson case.
The earliest cases in this category were first lodged in November 2005 - on behalf of Action 4 Equality Scotland (A4ES) clients - and the claims were considered again recently in Scotland's highest civil court - the Court of Session.
Action 4 Equality Scotland clients were represented by Fox Cross Solicitors in the Court of Session - which upheld the self-same arguments as the Employment Tribunal and Employment Appeal Tribunal.
Edinburgh City Council has now done the right thing - by agreeing not to proceed with an appeal to the UK Supreme Court - and to settle all outstanding A4ES equal pay cases via Fox Cross Solicitors.
So a good start to the New Year for all clients in Edinburgh - let's hope that other councils in Scotland now follow Edinburgh's lead.
Letters to all Action 4 Equality Scotland clients will follow as soon as possible.
So sit tight for the moment and await further developments - which will be confirmed to you in writing.
