Defending the Indefensible
Here's a typical example from someone who has no doubt served the City Council - and her local community - very well as a committed care worker for many years.
Yet the City Council still has to do the right thing over equal pay- having lost the argument at the Employment Tribunal, Employment Appeal Tribunal and most recently at the Court of Session - Scotland's highest civil court.
So all the former APT&C employees in Edinburgh and elsewhere - who are waiting for their claims to be settled - are entitled to be angry because the City Council is wasting time and huge amounts of public money in resisting these perfectly valid claims.
The courts in Scotland have decided time and again that former APT&C workers have the same equal pay claims as everyone else - yet the City Council keeps its head stuck in the sand.
Sooner or later Council leaders will have to come to their senses - let's hope they do so in the New Year.
Meantime don't let the politicians off the hook - let them know what you think and how you feel about being treated as a second class citizen - because as the reader says Edinburgh City Council is trying to 'defend the indefensible'.

I am writing to you both as a Social Care Worker and a tax paying Edinburgh resident concerning the above case.
I have just read your November statement where you say that you intend for the council to succeed in getting best value for money in these tough times and I would urge you to settle these outstanding cases which on three occassions have been unanimously found on be rightful claims and not to waste any more taxpayers money on further appeals by trying to "defend the indefensible".
I love my job and on yet another Christmas and New Year will be out seeing to my vulnerable clients, probably in the snow and so would ask again that this council does the right thing and settles these claims.
