The papers reported at the weekend that a young woman - Ruth Davidson - will  contest the election to become the new leader of the Conservative Party in Scotland.

The present Tory leader - Annabel Goldie - is also a woman of course and - ironically - the Tories can actually teach their political rivals a thing or two - when it comes to electing women to the top job.

But Ruth Davidson (32) is not just another boring political 'wannabe' - she has a life  outside of politics.

And a lifestyle that would have most Daily Telegraph or Daily Mail readers - spluttering over their morning cups of tea.

Ruth - so the papers say - is a lesbian and relaxes after a stressful day with a round or two of kickboxing.

Ruth's partner - apparently - is a supporter of the Green Party, a vegetarian and an atheist.

Now I can't speak for anyone else.

But I think it would almost be worth joining the Scottish Tories - just so that you could vote for Ruth Davidson - to become the new leader.

How amazing would that be - it would certainly shake things up - and stir the political establishment out of their slumbers.

SNP - Conspiracy of Silence

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer. So here's a list of activities which will help shine a light on what has been going on because as Lord Nolan once said apropos driving up standards in public life - 'daylight is the best disinfectant'.
