Freedom of Information

Tom Greatrex, South Lanarkshire Labour MP - or Rutherglen and Hamilton West to be precise - is in the news today over Freedom of Information (FOI).

The MP is complaining about an alleged 'cover up' by the Scottish government - which has withheld information regarding proposals to introduce a local income tax - and has written to the Cabinet Secretary of the UK government asking him to intervene.

Yet there is another FOI 'scandal' right on Tom's doorstep - the behaviour of South Lanarkshire Council which the Labour party seems to have ignored - to my knowledge anyway.

South Lanarkshire Council has been withholding information about its 'in-house' job evaluation scheme and rates of pay for male jobs for years - and has recently come in for criticism by the Scottish Information Commissioner.

So where are all Labour MPs and MSPs - when it comes to holding this Labour-led council to account?

If MPs and MSPs want to tell people where they stand on the issue - I am happy to report their views on the blog site.
